It’s the school holidays this week so Josh is staying at Nana’s house tonight instead of tomorrow. Yesterday was a bank holiday so Deanne and I did some washing and ironing, I built Josh’s new drawers, Bob came over for a bit and we also watched Episode V (as Joshua calls it), or The Empire Strikes Back as it’s more generally known. He really enjoyed it and so did I. It’s my favourite one!
Today I dropped him off at Julie’s, on the way to work. I spent most of today redoing the website for the company. I’m trying to get everything ready for when I leave, as I start my new job on the 13th of October. I confirmed the start day with Penny’s Dad today. Not sure how I feel about the whole thing but I’m sure it’ll work out okay.
While I was getting ready Josh did some cutting out, colouring and sticking, which is what the picture is below.
Work today was pretty good, I went to a site and actually had to take a PC to pieces to find out what was wrong with it. Turned out the power switch had come loose so it wouldn’t start up. I fixed it, went back to the office then got on with some website editing for the business.
However the best bit of today was when I got a call from Deanne to say that her boss had called her into his office, where he had offered her a slightly different role to fill in for someone who’s left. It means she’ll get to stay at the zoo just a little bit longer, and hopefully long enough to find a slightly more permanent (and more part time!) position.
I got home to a lovely pasta bake that Deanne had made, an interesting recipe that included a tin of tomato soup and torn up pieces of bread. Tasty.
We’re getting on with the packing and the house is slowly receding into multiple boxes, hopefully everything’ll be ready by moving day.
I also wrapped a present for a certain someone, which I’ll be posting in the next few days. I took a photo so you know what to look for when it arrives and don’t accidentally open it before the big day.
Tomorrow I’m dropping Josh off at Julie’s then she’s taking him to school and picking him up, then he’s staying over at hers, we’ve been invited over for tea, so it should be a nice relaxing evening for us.
Dropped Josh off at school this morning then headed to work, where a shiny new phone and nearly new laptop were waiting for me.
Jason, my new boss, had set them both up for me and so I logged on, changed my passwords then started work.
I did a couple of things today, one of which was starting to edit a document for a GP surgery, something to do with fulfilling requirements to practice, but purely the IT side of things from my perspective. I also set up a secure system for managing and sharing customer information between the two of us, as well as having a good chat to Jason, and his wife while he was talking to another IT guy he knows.
Because Deanne had been at a medical for a job this morning I was a tad later than 9am so I stayed a bit late too, however in the end we talked until close to six, so I certainly made the time up.
Dee had taken Josh with her and gone to the physio, so I made beans and toast for when they got home, Deanne had spaghetti as she doesn’t like beans though.
Then I was off again. I went to Darren’s house, to discuss the school P&C council website with him and figure out the best way of administrating it. He set it up but I’ve done some of the work to get it looking nice. We have a good idea of what to do but need some content from the P&C group to upload. The next meeting is on Wednesday so we’ll tell them what we’ve done then.
Now I have to go to bed as it’s work again tomorrow. Deanne is looking after Josh, hopefully she can cope okay with her back, but it does seem to be getting better now!
While Julie is away Deanne has booked Wednesdays off, for the days that Josh is at home rather than at school. It therefore felt a bit like a Saturday today because until I get a contract through and/or hear back from the University I’m still at home.
We headed out to the Tropical Twist play centre this morning and had an hour or two there, while Josh got out a bit of his pent up energy. He enjoyed himself and Dee and I chatted about various stuff, it was really nice. At one point Joshua was playing with one of the balls which they leave laying about there, he decided to shoot some hoops with it. I was more than a little surprised when he scored, twice. The picture is of him just about to get the ball through the basket for the second time!!!
Josh and I had Julie’s homemade pasties at lunch time, Dee had cheese on bread machine produced toast. In the afternoon Deanne and Josh watched a movie while I did some work on the school uniform shop accounts, to try and make sense and see any patterns in the data. The main reason I did this was because the P&C meeting was on tonight so I went along to that after tea, which was a cheesy tomato pasta that Dee made and was very nice.
It was a good meeting and I actually had to talk a bit about the school website that I’ve been doing some work on. I’ll show you it when it’s finished and published. It’s nice to be part of the meetings and to feel like I’m adding something with the odd comment or two I make. I’m also learning a lot more about Australia by taking part in them.
Tomorrow it’s just Joshy and me again, he has made me aware that he’d like to go back to the same play centre we were at today, which is okay because Julie bought a three month pass a while back and we can use it while she’s away.
I took Joshua to kindy today, which was nice ’cause I don’t normally get to do it on a Wednesday. It meant I got to accompany him to the bank at school and help him pay his $4 in. I played with him for a bit at the start of class but left before the buzzer went off at 9am, he was fine with that. I think he’s finally totally at ease with going, which is good. I heard him having a conversation with his teacher where he was being asked if he could ring the tidying up bell.
Bob picked me up at about ten thirty and we headed to his so I could do some more work on his new laptop. i think it’ll be a few more trips yet before it’s completely sorted, but at least I’m getting a bit of IT practice in.
I picked Joshua up and brought him home, he was pretty tired after his three day week. However Deanne got home early today after an early morning and as we were having our tea Joshua started telling us about his day at kindy. Wednesday is sports day and he had played a few games, one where they stood in a circle and passed a ball around, another which sounded a bit like cricket as they had to lift a bat up and hit a ball with it, then finally some version of basketball. Apparently he was well behaved during sport as he got to move his bee to number two when he got back to class. It’s the first time he’s really remembered stuff about his day to tell us.
Deanne went to the P&C meeting, that’s “parents and citizens”, in case you’re wondering, tonight, obviously I couldn’t as Julie and Rick are away, so I stayed here and did some last minute revision for my interview tomorrow. However I got a text from her just after nine telling me that I was popular. Apparently I made a bit of an impression at the last meeting when I was talking about what they could do with the school ‘blog, or rather what I could do with it! They were saying that I had some really good ideas for the site and what it was possible to do on it, so that made me feel good 🙂
Tomorrow is the big day, first Aussie interview. I’m sort of looking forward to it and sort of bricking it. But I’m sure it’ll be fine.
