At Work

Dear Mum,

It’s currently 19 minutes past two and I am sitting in the kitchen at work with my laptop. I don’t seem to have any very pressing things to do so I thought I’d give you a quick update (with some pictures).

Snuggles finally seems to have got over his earlier catty-mental issues. He is now going outside to wee and, on the occasions he needs to, going in his litter tray. He is still scratching the furniture a bit but not half so much as he was doing. He’s also become a lot more snuggly lately and has spent a lot of time sitting with, or on, us. Which is nice.

Our little mini-break to Gingin went well. The first picture is of the “black hole”, at the Gravity Discovery Centre, in which the balls roll round and round until they reach the bottom. The second one is the boy playing with the gravity spring, which shows you how gravitational waves travel.

The park at Gingin was good, although I was a little worried about the sign in the grassland nearby!

Slightly more recently, I took the young ‘un to the park and he had a bit of a scoot around. We also played with the new football (Australian) that Nanna and Poppy Richard brought back from their holiday for him.

I got a new review on Amazon, which is sparing with its word count but extremely positive. I’m quite pleased about it.

The last picture is one that I’m sure will bring back lots of memories for you (it certainly does for me) of when you used to make cakes and would offer us the spatula/whisk when you were done. I can’t remember what this particular sweet was, as we’ve made a lot of cakes and things lately, but he really enjoyed it!

As mentioned on Skype, we went out for a Father’s Day breakfast on Sunday morning, to a little bookshop near the river that has a rather good café in it, I had a full breakfast, which was rather filling. We might try and take you there when you visit, if we have the time. We then went to the park nearby for a walk, and so he could play on the playground. Bob came over in the afternoon and then we watched a film, which we haven’t done for ages. It was a lovely day!

Gotta go now, soon be time to get back to work.

Love

Dan

Zoo Excursion

Dear Mum,

By all accounts all the kids were very well behaved on the kindy/pre-primary trip to the Zoo today. The little ‘uns went on a bus and Dee drove her car, taking a couple of the other Mums with her. Deanne got to look after Josh and one other boy. Joshy seemed to enjoy it, they even all sat for an hour in the afternoon and listened to a talk. Whether that was due to them being interested or being tired out after stomping round the Zoo for several hours I don’t know.

As for me, work was pretty good today, although I had to take a short lunch again, so I could pick up my box of infusion sets from the post office in Canning Vale. I then got a call, just before I’d finished making tea and had to help someone out who couldn’t get into the work systems on his new personal laptop. Sorted it just in time to say hello to you on the Skype and then we ate. Got Josh ready for bed, read him “how to unbounce a Tigger”, from The House at Pooh Corner, which he thought was funny, then did my ironing.

Nearly bedtime now, so I’ll sign off with a picture of Snuggles relaxing on one of the boxes we have in the sitting room at the moment while we’re sorting out the fourth bedroom.

Tea At Nana’s

Dear Mum,

Snuggles went out first thing this morning but hadn’t come back by the time I went out to drop Joshua off at Nana’s house, which meant I had to drive back to let him in before I could go to work. I called out the back door (which is where I took the picture) and the laundry door, but he was nowhere to be seen. So I decided he could stay out for the day and opened the front door to get in my car. He was sat outside the flyscreen miaowing and wanting to be in, so I gave him a stroke on the head and went to work.

Most of the morning I was logged onto a server trying to get their internal website to work. However it proved too much for me and I had to pass it over to Jason to look at. In the afternoon I went to somebody’s house to look at a hard drive that was failing, but it turned out to be beyond repair so I had to take it back to the office to try and copy the data onto another one.

Got home at spot on half five and changed, then Deanne picked me up and we went to Julie’s for tea, a roast dinner, very nice, followed by a sticky date pudding with ice cream and then some chocolate cake. Think I may need a run tomorrow! Olive was there too and Joshua, obviously. The poor little thing (Josh, not Olive) was tired out and I think he’s feeling a bit peaky. He was quite clingy and wanted to sit on my knee and cuddle me between courses, we were a bit worried he would want to come home with us after seven weeks of no Nana, but he went for his bath and got in to bed without any worries. We all got a kiss and a cuddle, then he went off to sleep.

Tomorrow is a free day so I’m going to work on Richard’s project, need to pick Joshy up in the afternoon so Julie can go out to bowling in the evening.

Mushroom Stroganoff

Dear Mum,
The end of another week. Rick and Julie were over when I got home from work. They had a good time away and Julie said you’d have loved the flowers they saw.
Deanne made a stroganoff for tea, which was really nice. Josh had leftover pasta because he still doesn’t like mushrooms.
This weekend we have to start tidying things up, as it’s only two weeks until we move…again.
Hopefully we’ll fit some fun stuff in too though.
As you can see, Snuggles really enjoyed the stroganoff too!

Snuggles Has Left The Building

Dear Mum,
Deanne was in a baking mood today, and we didn’t have anything else planned. So while Josh played in the garden and I hung out some washing, she made some chunky monkey cookies, an apple pie, an apple strudel to put in the freezer and (in the afternoon) chocolate chip cookies. We also have some leftover lemon slice from yesterday and a few other frozen bits and pieces.
Toasted sandwiches for lunch, then we went to look at a house for sale in Leeming, not that we’re planning on buying any time soon, but we want to get our heads round what’s out there.
After that we took Josh to Kings Park, but sadly we had to curtail the trip due to tiredness and grumpiness (his, not ours). After getting home he went to bed and slept for a couple of hours.
I made crushed potatoes for dinner, with some sausages and vegetables. Apple pie for pudding, Josh had ice cream we had cream, it was lovely. We still have half of it left so I suspect it’ll be on the menu tomorrow night too.
I also used the sausage mix I froze weeks ago to make some sausage rolls, which we might use for lunches, etc. A lot of cooking today!
Deanne is still not quite better from the balance problems, plus she tripped on the sofa and re-hurt her back again, so she’s hobbling around in some discomfort at the moment. I’m sure she’ll be fine but she’s had a tough couple of weeks.
I suspect I may hear back from the new boss about a starting date in the next day or two, it’ll be funny going to work again.
Snuggles finally left the building of his own accord tonight and stayed out for a good hour or two. We’re very proud.
Love

Tropically Twisted

Dear Mum,

Snuggles decided that throughout the middle of last night was a good time to a) dig noisily in his litter tray, b) scratch at the furniture, and finally, but most noisily c) stand at the laundry room glass door and yowl in a terrifying manner at a big fluffy white cat standing outside the door.

This meant that none of us got a good nights rest, especially Deanne who had trouble getting back to sleep afterwards. So this morning we were all a little on the grumpy side – with The Snugs! However we managed to make it out of bed and got dressed, etc. Just a little on the late side compared to normal.

After Dee had gone to work Josh and I read for a while, then played for a bit before having a snack. After he had finished he decided it was a good time to play with the table mats in the dining room, first of all turning them into a bus shelter, with three small ones for the walls and a big one for the roof and floor, then he realised that the two big ones looked a bit like a laptop and so he did some typing. When I asked him what he was writing he told me that he was “sending some pictures to Grandma”, so I thought I’d take a photo.

Once shoes were on we went to the Tropical Twist play centre again, as Joshua really wanted to, we ran around a lot! On the way home we stopped into Nana’s house to pick up their mail, went to the shops after that and I bought some Diabetes stuff, after which is was home for lunch, then a nap for the boy.

Almost two hours later he got up again. We went outside and played with the balls for a while but then I had to come in and make tea, but Josh stayed outside for a bit and kept throwing and kicking.

Deanne got home at about half five and we ate slice, mash and veg for tea. When we’d finished Deanne called her Mum so Joshua could thank her for the t-shirt she sent him, then Joshua called Donna to say thank you for a hologramatic dinosaur table mat she sent him the other day. He’s not brilliant on the phone but getting better, he does however still finish what he’s saying (quickly) then just hands the phone back to whoever is nearest to him. Deanne is shopping at the moment but shouldn’t be too much longer.

Tomorrow he’s at daycare, I received my contract from the probable new boss today so I need to check that out and decide what to do. I’ll probably also (finally) start on Rich’s next bit of work.

Joshua, Sending A Picture To Grandma

Joshua, Sending A Picture To Grandma

My Pledidge!

Dear Mum,

We had a relatively late start this morning, as Deanne is still recovering from her inner ear thing, Joshua is recovering from his first week back at school and I am recovering from…well mainly from a really hectic week with lots of things happening in it.

After we had all breakfasted and got ready we went to the shops. we got out the money you sent us from Xmas, which we are going to keep safe until we’ve decided what to buy and then wrap them and keep whatever we get until December. We also got a present for Alice’s party next week and a few other bits and pieces.

Dee and I had leftover potato bake for lunch, Josh had a ham sandwich. In the a’vo Deanne made a buttercream cake, I put on a loaf of bread to cook, which we’ll use for lunch tomorrow. It was just a plain white one but I chopped up some sundried tomatoes and added them after it had proved. I’ll be really interested to see how it’s turned out as we haven’t tried it yet.

Dee made risotto for tea while Joshua and I played with his Lego. Snuggles actually decided to go out for a while on himself for a bit while we were sat near the back door, which is a bit of a step forwards for him. We’re shutting him out of our room in the daytime so he doesn’t have the option of slouching under our bed the whole day now, it seems to be helping a bit with his agoraphobia.

Josh had made a mess in his room, so when he was getting ready for bedtime I told him to clean up before I’d come back in his room. He did a really good job and I went in and told him so, and that I was really proud of him. He turned to me and said “my plodedge”. I was a bit confused and asked him to repeat what he’d said, this time it was “my pledidge”. I thought for a bit then asked him if what he had meant was “my pleasure” and he confirmed that it was!

We might possibly go see a movie tomorrow as Deanne got free tickets for writing that article for the BuggyBuddies website a while back. Bob is coming over in the afternoon for a while.
