TV Day

Dear Mum,

I took the picture this morning while Deanne, Joshua, Snuggles and I were laying in bed. Dee had opened the blinds to let some light in, so as not to waste energy on a light, and it was absolutely chucking it down. Joshy joined the two of us at about eight o’clock but instead of getting up I put Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 on the tablet and Joshua and I watched that while Dee read her book.

So we had a late breakfast today, then got dressed, showered, etc. before lunch time. Deanne decided it was a good day for cooking today, she made curries, chilli, lasagne, bolognese sauce, Anzac biscuits, banana bread and not forgetting tea tonight, which was burgers in buns with home made chips.

In the afternoon Joshua was a bit grouchy and decided at about ten to two that he should put himself to bed for a nap. So Deanne and I watched some of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows (part one), which we recorded the latter half of last night, ’cause it didn’t finish until after 12. He woke up again before it had finished, as we kept stopping for Dee to do more food prep’.

Because of all the baking it means we have a whole bunch of things we can get out to defrost for the next week or two to make for a few easy tea times.

We watched another movie while we had dinner, Shrek. Which Joshua hadn’t seen before and seemed to enjoy, then after putting him to bed Dee and I watched the rest of Harry Potter.

So the day has mainly revolved around the goggle box, but it’s not something we do very often so we don’t feel too bad about it.

Tomorrow is the first day of the school holidays, I’m not sure what the boy and I are doing yet but will try and remember to take some pictures whatever we decide upon.

Chips, Then Fish

Dear Mum,

Not a lot going on today, although we did get a load more rain, which I bet you’re really needing to soften your dig up a bit!

I spent most of the day on the computer downloading, then this afternoon I went to the shop and bought a ridiculously large amount of shopping, which will hopefully last us the rest of the month.

We got chips and potato cakey things for tea from the chip shop. After tea I gave him a bath and he played with his mechanical swimming fish in his fish tank that Nana bought him.

The next two weeks are the school holidays, so at least I can take advantage of the fact I don’t have a job yet to spend some time with Joshua doing fun things.

Deanne is going out with Michelle tomorrow as she is over from Melbourne for the weekend, not sure what Josh and I are going to do yet!

Rain, Again

Dear Mum,

Nothing particularly exciting happening today. Dee dropped Joshy off at kindy so I started downloading stuff for Rich’s work first thing. Briefly stopping to get the rain in when Deanne called to let me know there was a severe weather warning in place for some serious precipitation.

The day went past pretty quickly, it’s amazing how time flies when you have a specific task to work on. I stopped for lunch at about midday and watched the first half of a Top Gear, then went back to work.

At two pm I finally decided to get dressed, yes I know, it was the height of laziness but I was in my pyjamas and dressing-gown until then, I figured I didn’t have anything in particular to dress for, so why dress. Thankfully it was chucking it down so no one came to the door while I was working.

I headed out at half past two to pick up Joshua from school, it was still raining and so when I had parked the car I took the picture to show you what winter looks like in Perth. I took the boy’s raincoat and an umbrella, although it was a bit like a chocolate fireguard under the circumstances. However Josh didn’t get too wet on the way back from his classroom to the car, so it was worth it I guess.

I had a chat with Penny’s Mum, Emma while I was waiting for Joshy to come out and she said they were going to have mash with gravy for tea, I thought that was a spectacularly good idea considering the cold, wet weather, so I made potato and sweet potato mash, slice and veg. It was just the right thing for the weather.

Deanne is making some kind of iced brownies at the moment, she’s still in a baking mood, which is nice. I’m watching Attenborough’s Life in Cold Blood at the moment, then tomorrow is Joshy/Nana day and Joshua has decided he’d like to stay over at Nana’s house again, so it’ll be another quiet night for Deanne, Snuggles and I.

Run Forrest, Run!

Dear Mum,

Deanne took Joshua to kindy this morning so I spent a while looking at my emails and following up job adverts. Then, true to my word, I got my shorts, t-shirt and trainers on and went out the house to run (and maybe walk, a little bit) around the lake.

After about ten minutes it started raining, but the rain kind of came and went (as discussed previously) so I just kept going.  I had no idea when I started, but there were distance markers all the way around on the path and apparently the whole way round was 5.954 kilometres. That doesn’t sound like too much but it took me about an hour, with one short detour to look at the bird hide on the northern edge of the lake. I took the below picture near the path to the bird hide and thought it was interesting and different enough to stick up here.

When I got home I had a shower, got dressed and had lunch then watched last nights Top Gear, while I did some more work on my application letter for the job I mentioned yesterday.

I went to the Big W at Gateways shopping centre (not too far away), to pick up a photo we had printed of us at the beach for Joshua to take into kindy. We’re a bit late as a lot of the other kids have already taken their family photos in, but I think it’s just to stick on a board so the kids can show each other their parents.

I picked the boy up and handed the photo in, Joshua had got into trouble a few times today for various misdemeanours, I think part of it was tiredness but he also has a tendency to hug people…around the neck…quite firmly, we’ve been trying to stop him (for months!!) but he really likes hugging!

By a strange series of events I’m out in the evening the next three days, tomorrow is Joshua’s schools P&C meeting, Thursday I’m attending a writers group in the city, as Deanne told me I need to find some things to do other than sitting around in the house every day. On Friday I’m heading into town again to a small bar to an open mic’ night to meet a guy who’s interested in starting a band, he plays guitar and sings and writes songs and is also from the UK, a couple of years ago.

So I don’t know if I’m going to get around to writing the next few nights, but I’ll do my best.

Mandurah Or Bust

Dear Mum,
I had a pretty good day today. Searching for IT Consultancies and sending my CV off to some of them, also watching episodes of Mythbusters I’ve recorded on our tele-box. Which was nice!
Deanne got home a bit late as she’d tried to go to a hairdressers before coming home but hadn’t been able to find it, so we had to rush out to get to Mandurah for the meal (in honour of Kody’s birthday) at six. Which was quit difficult as there was torrential rain almost all the way there!
Joshy slept in the car on the way there but was then grumpy when we woke him up and spent most of the first quarter hour crying and whinging. After that he was fine and happily chatted to everyone who was there.
The picture is of what he chose to wear to go out tonight.
Gotta go to bed as we have a busy day tomorrow. I’ll tell you all about it afterwards.
Love
Dan

Books

Dear Mum,

After a relatively relaxing morning Deanne and I got ourselves sorted and headed out for the hills where we had made a reservation for lunch.

The place reminded me a little of one of the places we have eaten in Tobago as we ate on a balcony that looked out onto plants. It was a vegetarian place called Genesis In The Hills and the food was very nice, I had a sandwich and Deanne had an open burger, both of which were excellent, the only problem being my insulin was low and I had forgotten to change it, it ran out half way through lunch. However the food didn’t have too much carbohydrate in it so I just decided to wait until we got home to get pumped up again.

It was a dumb thing to do because otherwise we could have stayed out a bit longer and gone for a bit of a walk in the nice cool air of the hills, however as it was it turned out okay as we got home in the middle of the afternoon then made the decision to head out for South Perth and see if we could find  couple of bookshops we had found on Google.

We only actually got to one of them as it was a café and so, after having a bit of a browse and deciding which Harry and the Dinosaurs book to buy Joshua for his birthday (Harry and the Dinosaur’s birthday party, or some such), we had a drink and bought Josh a smiley biscuit. By the time we left it was about half five and so we went to see where the other shop was, which appears to be a bit of a wholesaler for kids books, so that might come in handy when we’ve actually checked it out.

We came home and got ourselves ready for dinner, at which point there was a power cut, apparently a common occurrence over here but not one we’ve experienced so far, so we had to have dinner outside so we could see, then put Joshua to bed in the dark. I’m sure it won’t be the last time.

We’re possibly going to the zoo tomorrow but it depends a bit on the weather (I forgot to say it was chucking it down from when we set off to when we got back from the book shops).

Love

Dan
