Dear Mum,

As you can imagine it’s been a pretty busy few weeks, even the weekend was crazy.

On Friday Deanne went out with the Mum’s from Kindy for an Xmas meal, so Joshua and I went to get some fish and chips, which we ate at the playground at Riverton. During Daycare he had actually taken part in some facepainting (for the first time ever) so I thought I better capture it for posterity, which is the first picture.

Joshua seemed more interested in playing on the playground than eating his chips and potato scallops, but eventually he did take some time out from his busy schedule to have dinner. The second picture is of him looking through the spyglass at the park, this was after we had eaten and we played together for a bit, ho didn’t get to bed until about 9 o’clock.

On Saturday I did what remained of my pre-Christmas, Christmas shopping. I’ll send the UK contingent’s stuff out in the new year. Then I met with Deanne and Josh at the shopping centre at Success, I turned up just in time to stop at Miss Maude’s for a drink and a cake, which was nice. Then we did our food shopping and came home. It was super busy at the shops, but I still have a bit of a disconnect going in my head about Christmas being three days away because it’s sunny and hot!

On Sunday we had an impromptu trip to the Zoo, most of the animals were laying about relaxing, although it wasn’t such a hot day as a few lately, we’ve been up to the high thirties a couple of times. The best picture I got was probably the third one below of the Koala having a bit of a kip.

My final, slightly exciting, news is that I’ve actually got round to publishing my book on Amazon. If you or ToF want it I’ll chuck you a copy of the finished one straight to your Kindles, but if you happen to get a chance tell Rich he can even buy it in Brazil by going to the Brazilian Amazon website and searching for Dan Ladle. The cover of the book is the fourth picture, although I’ve updated it since I did that one but it hasn’t shown up on the site yet!

Dinner, By Deanne

Dear Mum,

Today was a pretty quiet day. Deanne is feeling a bit better so we both did some housework, washing, vacuuming, etc. while Joshua cut some shapes out and coloured them in. While I was hanging the washing out I asked Joshy if he could get my sunnies and he came back laughing, as per the picture. For lunch I made little Pizzas, just tomato sauce and cheese on the bases you can buy from Coles.

After lunch we went to see a house in Bull Creek, but it wasn’t quite as nice as a one Dee saw the other day in Leeming, so we’ll probably put an offer in for that one and see what happens! We had to visit Coles next because I accidentally bought top-loader washing powder instead of front-loader, like our is. They gave us our money back without questioning my stupidity so we bought some more and also some Tim Tams, because they were going cheap.

Joshua did some more Maths Seeds when we got home and then he played in the garden while I did some weeding, as we ned to get the house in decent shape for when we move out.

Deanne was feeling well enough to make tea, and a fine job she did of it. We got polenta topped with a mushroom ragù, which tasted fantastic. Josh had beans and toast as he didn’t fancy it, although he did have a try of the polenta but wasn’t too keen.

Josh would like to take his bike to the park tomorrow, apart from that nothing planned.

Rainbow Cat

Dear Mum,

I dropped Joshua off at daycare this morning, then went to get some cash out the bank and post a letter. I got home, did a couple of bits of housework then started doing some computing stuff.

I had leftover lasagne for lunch then mowed the lawn, as we still have Bob’s mower. Deanne got home at about four and we went to collect Joshua together then drove to Spud Shed and then Coles to buy fruit, veg’ and a few other bits and pieces for the next couple of weeks.

On the way back we stopped off at the library and dropped off a few books Deanne and Joshua had got out. Deanne had promised she was going to read some of the ones on our bookshelves but accidentally took out about another five books anyway. Josh got a Dinosaur A to Z and a one about prehistoric marine reptiles, which he read in the car on the way home. He asked me to turn round so I could look at the Pterygotas, which is a giant aquatic scorpion-y thing from his Walking with Monsters DVD.

We got chips on the way home as it was quite late so we couldn’t be bothered making tea (always seems to be the way when you’ve just been shopping!).

Bob is coming over tomorrow afternoon and we’re going to the Shipwreck Galleries in Fremantle, he’s also collecting his lawnmower, which explains my afternoon activities today!

The picture, plus the title I’ve given today’s post, is because we turned up to collect the boy from daycare and all the kids had been offered face painting. Joshua had decided to be a Rainbow Cat. We were really impressed because any time in the past that he had the chance he wasn’t at all keen on the idea, but today (I’m guessing partly because of peer pressure) he sat there very quietly and waited until the woman had finished. He was very impressed and told us he had been playing at being a Rainbow Cat and also a…kitten. It was very funny.

I took about four pictures in a row, the first two times he said “cheese”, then the third time he said “miaow”, which he thought was hilarious and started laughing, which is the picture I’ve attached.

Sausage Rolls

Dear Mum,

A busy day today!

We got up relatively early, had breakfast, showered (I shaved, Paul :-p), got dressed and headed out to look at a couple of beds at the place we went the other week. Then we went to a shop called Spotlight, which sells crafting stuff and bought some pipe-cleaners and beads for Joshy to do some threading, and some scissors for him so he can cut things out, finally some wool so we can make some necklaces or whatever with the beads.

After that we went to Coles and grabbed a few essentials, fruit and cheese and things. By the time we got home it was getting towards twelve o’clock, but we decided to just have a snack (we bought some ring doughnuts and iced buns and ate them), then Josh and Deanne got on their bikes and we went to the Lake, they cycled round while I walked/ran near Joshua so as to keep him from getting into trouble. Of course I didn’t do a very good job because as we set off I ran down the drive with him and he fell at the bottom, on the road, grazing the back of both of his hands. He cried quite a lot, but after we gave him a few cuddles and kisses he was okay.

We got as far round the lake as the small playground on the other side, must be about two or three kilometres, and then Joshy played for about half an hour. On the way back he started to get a bit tired as we got near home, but managed to get all the way without too much help. I was quite impressed. I will get a bike at some point, but it’s not top on the priority list at the moment.

We had toasted cheese sarnies for lunch and Josh watched Ice Age 3 -Dawn Of The Dinosaurs (again) as we ate. Julie came round for a bit, but you know that ’cause that is around when we Skyped.

After we talked to you I made some veggie sausage rolls, as there were some ingredients left over from when I last made them, they look pretty good but we haven’t eaten any yet as we had far too much junk food today and couldn’t fit anything else in. They’ll be good for lunches next week and we might have some tomorrow too.

Deanne did a risotto for tea, which was very nice with some garlic bread, then I put Josh to bed. Tomorrow we have nothing particularly planned so we’ll get up and see what happens.

Shopping

Dear Mum,
Not a bad day, did some washing and hung it out with Joshua before Julie picked him up for the day. After they had left I got myself sorted, wrote a list and headed for the Coles at Kardinya.
Shopping was okay. I’ve finally found my proper headphones and put music on the phone that Donna gave me, so I had a soundtrack as I searched for stuff to buy.
Deanne read the application I’ve been writing, for the job I’m really interested in at UWA, last night, so I spent the rest of the day trying to make that right.
We’ve been watching an episode of Endeavour this evening, we recorded it last night. Probably one of the best things on TV. In this country of yours!
Not sure what I’m doing tomorrow yet? The picture was taken as Joshy got ready for bed.

Quiet Please

Dear Mum,

A fairly quiet day today. I dropped Joshy off at daycare at 9am then went to Coles (a bit like Asda) and bought a couple of boxes of cereal, which I will have some of soon. when I got home I did the ironing and checked to see we didn’t have any more washing to do.

Most of the rest of the day was spent finishing my CV, so only the cover letter to do now, although I also did a bit of hoovering after Josh came home ’cause he had somehow secreted a small pile of sand in his trouser pockets and then emptied it out on the floor when we got back.

This evening I did some bits of paperwork, like changing my pension details and figuring out exactly what HMRC need me to do to have officially left the UK.

Joshua and I have no firm plans for tomorrow, although he would like to go to the park down the road and I thought we could head for the library and borrow some books for him, and maybe a DVD which we can watch together if he’s tired in the afternoon.
