The Slow Boat To Freo

Dear Mum,
We were out of the house by 08:20 today, drove to the train station, got off at Esplanade and walked to the jetty nearby. My lovely wife had organised a trip to Fremantle for the day and we got in a boat which took us all the way down the river, seeing the sights, and incredibly expensive houses along the way.
After arriving we had a short walk to a nice restaurant on the waterfront. Josh had fish and chips, Deanne and I shared some grilled halloumi cheese and a sweet potato pizza.
We went to the beach afterwards and Josh got to run back and forth in the surf. He loved it.
Got the boat back and arrived home at about six. It was a really great day and we all had a lovely time. A fantastic way to spend (two days before) my birthday Deanne is lovely. Tomorrow is the family gathering at our house so should be interesting.
The picture was taken on the boat back to the city, Joshua was eating as seemed to be his main focus today!

Family Trip – Hooray!

Dear Mum,

I won’t write much as the Skype chat was fairly thorough.

Not too busy this morning, Joshy did some more maths seeds, played outside a bit and watched some Dinosaur Train, Deanne had a hot bath and then had a nap while Joshua and I had lunch, cheese sandwiches (it’s a theme!). Josh and I got ready then when Dee woke and dressed we jumped in the car and drove to Coogee Beach.

First we bought a cake from the Dome, which is a restaurant/café chain over here. Josh had a little chocolate elephant sweetie, Deanne had fruit toast and I had a florentine, which obviously made me think of you. It was very nice.

Joshy played on the beach afterwards and had a fine old time, although he was the only person in the water. In fact apart from one other family, who we noticed were Poms, we were the only people on the beach at all! The weather was okay, mostly cloudy but warm enough for just a t-shirt for me, Deanne was a bit more rugged up but she is still on the ill side, although much better today I think. Josh was just in his bathers, although we had some clothes for after he got dried.

I made slice and mash for tea then I put the boy to bed and did a bit of ironing before writing this.

Tomorrow is a kindy day so I’ll be dropping the boy off before coming home and doing some of Rich’s work. Although I have a parcel to collect from the delivery office, which I think may contain part of your birthday present. But I’ll only know when I pick it up.

Art

Dear Mum,
I won’t write much tonight as I’m knackered!
We went to Cottesloe beach today, where there were a bunch of sculptures and other pieces of art installed along the beach and the surrounding areas. It was really good and all three of us enjoyed ourselves.
The travellers return tomorrow so I guess we’ll be doing a bit of hoovering, etc. before they arrive 🙂

Happy Birthday Julie

Dear Mum,

It was Julie’s birthday today, we didn’t do too much in the morning but lunch was booked at a restaurant at about midday on the beach in Rockingham, more or less, so we went down there and met up with Olive,Janice and Kody. There were quite few veggie options, I had a risotto, Deanne had a burger and Joshua went for pizza.

After we had eaten everyone left apart from us, we got Joshua changed and went down onto the beach to play. We must have been there an hour or so but it seemed like much longer in the heat of the day. However Joshua had a whale of a time and even went (a bit too far for our liking) into the water, pretty much over his shoulders! He also did the obligatory digging up the sand and burying his feet and mine.

After we packed up we went for a drive in to Fremantle so we could show Joshua the type of ship our container would have come in on, as he’s been asking about it a bit

Once we had done that we came home and Joshua watched a bit of TV while I made him some baked beans and toast, which he ate, then a yoghurt, then a pear. I was amazed he ate so much after eating half of a thick crust pizza and chips for lunch, and an ice lolly after he got home again from the beach.

Anyway, it was a busy day and we all had fun, but should probably have taken more to drink with us as Deanne and I were definitely a bit dehydrated when we got back, and I think Joshy might have been too as he was a bit on the grumpy side when I made his tea.

Tomorrow we’re doing a bunch of house viewings and then going to watch the fireworks at Point Walter in the evening.

Happy Australia Day

Dear Mum,

Today was Australia Day! We started out by arriving at Bull Creek Park a little too late this morning, just as all the festivities were being packed away, however Joshua got to look at the ducks in the pond and follow a little man-made stream to see where it started.

Julie and Rick are still away, getting back tomorrow so it’s quiet at home just now, we had sandwiches for lunch, just cheese for Josh, halloumi and sun-dried tomato for Deanne and I. This afternoon Joshua and Deanne both had a nap 🙂 So I did a bit of housework and started making a picnic tea, once they were up and sorted we headed out towards the river, there were fireworks so we had our food and then went down to a little beach where Joshy danced to the music which they play on one of the radio stations to accompany the fireworks, he had a great time.

Back home and he was a little reluctant to have his shower/hairwash but eventually calmed down and then had chapter six of Pooh (again), he loves that book, this is the second time through it.

Bank holiday tomorrow, not sure what we’re doing yet.

Bingo…Or House…Or Whatever You Say!

Dear Mum,

As Deanne and i found ourselves at a kind of a loose end today, what with Joshua being in the caravan at Coogee with Rick and Julie, we decided to go sort out Deanne’s phone. She’s still using her UK one, which was not playing with the Australian SIM card the Vodafone shop had sold her. However finally, after a factory reset to put all the settings back to their defaults, we took it in, a nice young man updated the details for the Aussie network and it finally seems to work. I’ll let you know the number when you get back to England so you can put it in your phone book.

After that we went to look at some houses in Leeming, they weren’t in the right part of Leeming but we thought we should start getting our eyes in for what to look out for. A couple were not good (in the words of Abney and Teal), one looked very good, although that was because it was about $200,000 over our probable budget. The last one we looked at was maybe a bit tired but actually quite a promising prospect, not far off what we’re wanting to pay and the configuration of the rooms was close to what we’re after.

However none of this really helps us at the moment as we can’t really get something until our stuff is due to turn up in a couple more months, but it was interesting to take a look anyway.

Later in the afternoon we headed to the caravan park to meet up with the happy campers, we had a barbie, then went down to the beach to watch the sunset, Joshua had a great time running up and down on the beach but by the time we went back to the caravan to say good night he was too tired and wouldn’t stay another night so insisted on coming home with us (there were tears). Got back, gave him a bath then put him to bed. He was knackered.
