A Bit Of Baking

Dear Mum,

Life is still hectic as anything, for Deanne, Joshua and myself. Deanne is putting an awful lot of hours into her University work, as you’d expect, I guess. She seems to be getting on okay with it and is enjoying the practicals.

Josh is powering along at school and appears to be teaching himself to read, mostly through the medium of dinosaurs. Not, you might think, the easiest of words to start with but he knows the creatures so well that he can start reading the words and guess from his immense knowledge of terrible lizards.

Because last Monday was a bank holiday and he was meant to be starting his new term of gymnastics, it meant he had both gymnastics and swimming yesterday. I was quite surprised to find he didn’t sleep in the car on the way home from the swimming, but I suppose he is growing up and becoming a bit more resilient. After getting home we had to shop, Deanne had a long day at Uni, then had coursework to do, so it was Josh and me all the way. Before we shopped we stopped for a drink and a snack, Joshua had a doughnut man and a babyccino, I had a Diet Coke and a hedgehog slice. The first picture is the boy enjoying his food and drink.

Today Josh and I did various bits of cooking, first of all I did some bread in the bread machine so we could have sausage sandwiches for lunch. I was so excited by this that I took the second picture, it’s been ages since we had homemade sausage sarnies! In the afternoon we did a big bake, made some oatmeal raisin cookies, followed by some lemon biscuits. That doesn’t sound like a lot but it took most of the afternoon. Joshy also wanted to watch the making of the Walking With programs, after I accidentally put the wrong disc in the DVD player, he asked me to play it anyway. He was entranced, then ensconced!

Gotta go, back to work tomorrow.

Another Lazy Sunday

Dear Mum,
After our busy week we decided to have a quiet, relaxing Sunday. Deanne did a load of washing and hanging out, Joshua played and I hoovered throughout the house.
Lunch was cheese and tomato toasted sandwiches for us and a ham Sarnie for Joshy. After complaining that if was different ham, when we bought it last week (it wasn’t!), he is now a big fan of the Coles honey roast type, which he’d actually had before at Julie’s house. Funny boy.
We actually took a trip over to Rick and Julie’s house in the afternoon to check the mail and that everything was still secure and okay.
Joshy asked if he could watch Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs again, so he did that while Deanne was making a chocolate cake and I was cooking tea, veggie roll and home made chips with veg’.
I’ve been trying to persuade Josh that he wants to go for a cycle tomorrow, but he’s not too sure after the last time he was out and fell off. Apart from that no’wt else planned for his last day off school. Will try and be home to Skype you in the afternoon.
I didn’t take any pictures today so you get another one from our trip to Freo yesterday.
Love
Dan

TV Day

Dear Mum,

I took the picture this morning while Deanne, Joshua, Snuggles and I were laying in bed. Dee had opened the blinds to let some light in, so as not to waste energy on a light, and it was absolutely chucking it down. Joshy joined the two of us at about eight o’clock but instead of getting up I put Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 on the tablet and Joshua and I watched that while Dee read her book.

So we had a late breakfast today, then got dressed, showered, etc. before lunch time. Deanne decided it was a good day for cooking today, she made curries, chilli, lasagne, bolognese sauce, Anzac biscuits, banana bread and not forgetting tea tonight, which was burgers in buns with home made chips.

In the afternoon Joshua was a bit grouchy and decided at about ten to two that he should put himself to bed for a nap. So Deanne and I watched some of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows (part one), which we recorded the latter half of last night, ’cause it didn’t finish until after 12. He woke up again before it had finished, as we kept stopping for Dee to do more food prep’.

Because of all the baking it means we have a whole bunch of things we can get out to defrost for the next week or two to make for a few easy tea times.

We watched another movie while we had dinner, Shrek. Which Joshua hadn’t seen before and seemed to enjoy, then after putting him to bed Dee and I watched the rest of Harry Potter.

So the day has mainly revolved around the goggle box, but it’s not something we do very often so we don’t feel too bad about it.

Tomorrow is the first day of the school holidays, I’m not sure what the boy and I are doing yet but will try and remember to take some pictures whatever we decide upon.

Love
