They Have To Mate First!

Dear Mum,

Life is barrelling along at the moment. Deanne is busily learning at University, Joshua is learning at school and I’m working. I hope you got the pictures I chucked in the dropbox the other day. Josh’s swimming lesson was fantastic, watching him walk into the water with his pyjamas on was hilarious, and he did such a good job of his life-saving exercises, paddling on a surfboard, pulling other kids out of the water and generally having a huge laugh the whole time.

He’s also preparing for his birthday party, he’s been getting out of bed a bit early and drawing and cutting out Octonauts vehicles, as he’s having an Octonauts party. He ran in the other morning to show us a bunch of them. He has also written a rather exclusive list of who he would like to come to his party, although it’s not on for another few weeks because a lot of people are on holiday over Easter.

I mainly wanted to tell you about the conversation Joshua and Deanne had when Joshua brought home the rather fine model of a Triceratops he made at school today. After getting in he got a marker pen and drew a baby Triceratops on the Mummy. Deanne said that not all female animals have babies inside them, to which Joshua, quite seriously, pointed out that “no Mummy, only after they’ve mated”!

I have, of course, included a picture of said Triceratops. If you look carefully you can see the fetus just above the cereal bowl.

Growing Boy

Dear Mum,

After getting home from work tonight we had tea, then we started Joshy’s bedtime routine. However, for some reason Joshua seemed to want to have his independence today. First of all he washed his own hair, I only helped out a bit with the rinsing right at the end. He finished bathing, after setting up his experiment (he does a different one every night, it was stuffing a flannel into one of his plastic test tubes this evening) he got out and took his towel, drying himself and then telling me that he would get himself dressed.

He opened the door to his room a minute later dressed in his pyjamas, without anything back to front or inside out. Then he went and brushed his teeth (while I dried his hair). Afterwards he went through to the sitting room to tell Deanne all of the things he had done on himself, he was very proud.

I’ll leave you with the picture he brought home from school.

Happy Mothers Day

Dear Mum,

Just wanted to say, I hope you have a great day today.

Here is a picture of a fork lift truck that Joshua built the other day.

Tea at Julie’s

Dear Mum,

Wednesday is, of course, Joshy/Nana day, however Deanne and I were invited over for dinner. A lovely roast dinner with Yorkshire puddings, very tasty. I was apparently quite hungry as I finished mine, put down my knife and fork and then looked up to find everyone else was still eating.

I’m on earlies this week, so I’m a little tired. On the bright side I do tend to be home in time to go pick Josh up and e.g. Go to gymnastics with he and Dee.

We went to see the Foo Fighters on Sunday night. As ever they were fantastic, I even did a review on my writing ‘blog. Talking of which, I seem to be doing rather a lot of writing for various things, but I’m loving it!

I’m sure lots of other exciting things have been happening lately too, but getting up at five in the morning isn’t conducive to a good memory so I’ll try and remember for next time.

The picture was taken last Friday after Josh got his Wow Box toy, which he’s waving about after doing his Uncle Richard world animal puzzle, all by himself. Not an easy puzzle!

Bank Holiday

Dear Mum,

So today was a bank holiday, sadly Deanne had to go in to University for a lecture this morning, but on the bright side it meant I got a day with my boy!

Our weekend has been rather crazy…Saturday was really busy (for Joshua), because of the bank holiday Joshy didn’t have gymnastics today, so he went to a make-up class on Saturday morning. Of course he also does swimming on Saturday afternoon, so by the end of the day he was absolutely bejiggered.

Sunday was Julie’s birthday, there was a family gathering at a nice café/restaurant in Fremantle for lunch, the food was great and, unusually, there was a whole load of vegetarian food on the menu (thank you Julie). Unfortunately we were too full for pudding, but we have to go back because they had the most fantastic selection of (enormous) cakes. We’ll take you there when you visit.

Today Josh and I had our final trip to Scitech before our passes run out. Josh and I got ready at the same time this morning, in that he had a bath while I showered, he dried himself off and got his clothes ready and on. He helped me pack our snacks and lunch, then we set off. We were the second people through the door so he got to choose what to do first with no competitors. We played on just about everything, and Joshy had a fantastic time doing experiments, watching puppet shows and making and testing things.

I’ve included a bunch of pictures to make up for the dearth of posts recently, however they’re more or less all from this weekend. I’ll try and remember to drop some others in the Dropbox when I get a chance.

Anyway, life seems a bit more sorted now, I need to get on with a music review so I’ll write in a couple of days when I’ve finished it.

Write Of Passage

Dear Mum,
I’ve been on call this week so I’m looking forward to the weekend.
Deanne spent most of today at the Uni’ for inductions, she’s watching various videos from the tutors at the moment, to prepare her for her first proper day on Monday. How exciting!
Josh has had a pretty good week, he’s coping admirably with five days and seems to be doing alright with his work, they’ve been learning about words beginning with A this week, he was telling me lots of them after I picked him up from Julie’s this a’vo.
I’m keeping myself busy with all the writing, just finished another article for the music ‘blog tonight, plus the two books are ongoing
Here’s a picture of a lizard that Josh found outside the other day.

New Goggles

Dear Mum,

Just wanted to say “hi”, we’re okay just incredibly busy! Thought I should tell you what’s been going on a bit…

Josh is having a great time at school, he seems to have settled in really well and is starting to recognise the other kids in his class, even if he doesn’t know any of their names yet. Although when I dropped him off at pre-school care on Friday another boy from his class was there, it was Harry, who we met at the very beginning of last year but haven’t really seen since. Joshua made an amusing face with a gum nut and Harry thought it was funny, so hopefully they might get to know each other.

He’s also loving the gymnastics and swimming lessons, he is trying to take it all quite seriously, however the way it usually turns out is with him laughing and either falling over (gymnastics) or getting a mouthful of water. But he is definitely improving, he now just splutters a bit after an immersion, rather than wiping his face for a couple of minutes and coughing.

Deanne’s job finally finishes in a week or two, she is a bit nervous but looking forward to getting back into academia. Can’t remember if we’ve actually told you about that, I’ll fill you in next time we Skype.

Personally I’ve been quite busy doing all sorts of different writing things, there is the new ‘blog I’m contributing to at http://www.semplesize.com. There is also the writing ‘blog at http://ladlewritings.wordpress.com on which I recently published a Competition to identify the Twitter accounts for the six characters from my book, the winner gets a free copy of my book.

I’ve also started writing two new books, the one I mentioned about Diabetes, and the other one about the Vampire, both are progressing nicely, although not as fast as I would hope, but that’s what happens when you have a life!

Gotta go, it’s bed time and we’re all tired after a day watching some Giants, going to a swimming lesson and generally having a lot of fun.

The picture is of Josh in his new goggles, which actually fit him!
