Triassic Fun Park Party

Dear Mum,
It’s the first day of a long weekend today, and it’s a relatively busy one for us. Tomorrow we’ve got Bob coming over for lunch, on Monday we’re going to Julie’s for lunch. Josh would also like to visit the Zoo, if we can fit it in!
Today was Leo’s party. It was at the Triassic Fun Park, where Joshy had his birthday. Apparently, as soon as Josh’s party had finished Leo came out and said “I want my birthday party there!”
It was quite good because it was a slightly different bunch of kids to the ones Joshua normally hangs out with, some were even from the other class. Joshua really enjoyed it and played with all the boys there (no girls at this party, whether by accident or design I don’t know?!).
The boy had a nap in the afternoon, about two and a half hours, then we had tea.
I’ll try and Skype you tomorrow before you go, to check how your arm is.
Love
Dan

Making It Up As I Go Along

Dear Mum,

Tonight was the open mic’ night I mentioned. It was quite good and I surprised myself with the amount of songs I was able to muddle my way through, however the guy who ran it didn’t really seem that interested in playing music together. I think he was just trying to get people in to his café, it was fun anyway though and I may well go back if I get a free Friday night, and a chance to practice some music.

Once again it’s late and I’m tired so I really have to go to bed. After the “final” picture of Joshua with his snail yesterday I thought you might like the out-take, which was our first attempt. They’re blackboard rubbers, in case you were wondering!

Write Turn

Dear Mum,

Just got back from my writers group, which was very interesting, but it’s late and I need to go to bed so I thought I’d just post a pic’ of Joshua, standing next to a picture of a snail that he drew this morning.

Parents and Citizens

Dear Mum,

No picture today I’m afraid, it’s been a busy day and I kind of forgot what I was doing.

Bob came round this morning and mowed our grass for us, I raked the clippings (mainly twigs, from the trees out the front) up and put them in the bin.

He didn’t stay too long afterwards, just enough time to have a cup of tea and let his petrol mower cool down again, then I finished off raking and binning and got on with some application letter writing. Not finished the letter yet, but the job is open until the eighth of June.

I picked Josh up because Nana had something on this afternoon so we got home, read his new school library book, which is about a diplodocus who can’t sleep. Then he watched some TV while I cooked tea, a slightly tasteless curry. After Deanne had got home and we had eaten I got ready and went out to the P&C meeting at Joshy’s school and that was my evening. Finally looks like we might be getting somewhere with creating a website for the P&C committee, so I’ll let you know when that goes live so you can check it out.

Tomorrow is Joshy/Nana day so I’ll be working on jobs, plus hopefully hoovering as the house is really dusty!

Run Forrest, Run!

Dear Mum,

Deanne took Joshua to kindy this morning so I spent a while looking at my emails and following up job adverts. Then, true to my word, I got my shorts, t-shirt and trainers on and went out the house to run (and maybe walk, a little bit) around the lake.

After about ten minutes it started raining, but the rain kind of came and went (as discussed previously) so I just kept going.  I had no idea when I started, but there were distance markers all the way around on the path and apparently the whole way round was 5.954 kilometres. That doesn’t sound like too much but it took me about an hour, with one short detour to look at the bird hide on the northern edge of the lake. I took the below picture near the path to the bird hide and thought it was interesting and different enough to stick up here.

When I got home I had a shower, got dressed and had lunch then watched last nights Top Gear, while I did some more work on my application letter for the job I mentioned yesterday.

I went to the Big W at Gateways shopping centre (not too far away), to pick up a photo we had printed of us at the beach for Joshua to take into kindy. We’re a bit late as a lot of the other kids have already taken their family photos in, but I think it’s just to stick on a board so the kids can show each other their parents.

I picked the boy up and handed the photo in, Joshua had got into trouble a few times today for various misdemeanours, I think part of it was tiredness but he also has a tendency to hug people…around the neck…quite firmly, we’ve been trying to stop him (for months!!) but he really likes hugging!

By a strange series of events I’m out in the evening the next three days, tomorrow is Joshua’s schools P&C meeting, Thursday I’m attending a writers group in the city, as Deanne told me I need to find some things to do other than sitting around in the house every day. On Friday I’m heading into town again to a small bar to an open mic’ night to meet a guy who’s interested in starting a band, he plays guitar and sings and writes songs and is also from the UK, a couple of years ago.

So I don’t know if I’m going to get around to writing the next few nights, but I’ll do my best.

Dinosaur Day

Dear Mum,
Another busy day today. I dropped Josh off at school then drove to the iiNet office/shop-front in Subiaco and they took about half an hour to swap the broken power supply unit of the TV box for a new one. I was slightly worried that whatever had blown the PSU might have fried the actual recorder too but thankfully after getting home and plugging it in everything worked as it should do!
I spent a good percentage of the day doing a cover letter for a job application that looks pretty interesting, even though it’s in Mount Lawley which is a bit of a hike. It’s another Uni’ job but more of a leadership one than the others I’ve been for. Haven’t finished yet but well on the way!
I picked Joshua up, arriving in time to hear a dinosaur book being read to his class. On the way home he told me that his teacher had got a couple of the names wrong. When I asked if he’d corrected her he told me that he had, a few times! I wish I’d heard that.
We went to the library to drop his books and Pooh DVD off, as they were due back tomorrow. He picked a couple of new books, one of which I’ve taken a picture of because he chose it all by himself and we’re never going to read all of it before it’s due back, and another Winnie The Pooh DVD. Then we headed home so I could make tea and he could watch the new video.
Tomorrow Deanne is dropping Joshua off at Kindy, so I think I’m going to go out for a run, if if isn’t heaving it down with rain.
BTW, you’re absolutely right. We do need the rain. However what I’ve worked out is that the rain isn’t just constant, like in the UK, you get a lot of dry patches, then small but incredibly heavy bursts of rain. Which means that you can’t hang the washing out, as it’s never dry for long enough for the clothes to finish drying before it rains again and everything is soaked through. It’s okay though as we seem to be managing to dry stuff on the airers.

Push Me Daddy

Dear Mum,

This morning Deanne went out to a craft fair in Perth so Joshua and I had some Daddy/Joshy time. We got dressed, played with his Play Dough, did some stickering, then we went to the park and Joshua cycled a circuit which took in a large portion of this side of Bibra Lake. He goes fast enough for me not to be able to keep up with him now, but when there is an incline he keeps asking for a push to get him going again. When he gets far enough away from me he stops, turns round and shouts “take a picture Daddy”. So I have about ten pictures of a tiny dot in the middle distance.

After lunch Deanne and Joshua made some bran flake cakes and then, because we’ve had such a busy week with a few late nights for Joshua we spent most of the afternoon letting him watch TV shows. However, due to the fact that the power block for our TV box has blown he had to watch them on the laptop rather than the TV. This meant I had to teach him how to navigate the ABC4Kids website, start the videos and make them fill the screen. He learnt worryingly quickly! He’ll be better than us in a year or twos time I suspect.

So tomorrow I’ll be heading to Subiaco, where the iiNet shop is, and swapping our power block for a new one. I also need to pop to the bank to pay some money in and probably do some other stuff I’ve forgotten about. It doesn’t seem like it should be Monday again already!

The picture is of the pile of Teddies Joshua left by the front door. When I asked him what they were for he said that he was going to take them to Nana’s house when it’s Joshy/Nana day this week.
